About

de Beaufort Films

Film is truly one of the greatest art forms to inspire. For where else can people from all different walks of life, different ages, colors, religions, languages and politics all come together under one roof in the dark and transcend these differences that normally divide us to unite under one common language: emotion -a single shared universal emotion of fear, laughter, tears, and joy while going through the journey of the human experience. Heiko de Beaufort founded de Beaufort Films with the goal to make films that will not only entertain, but also to make positive contributions to our world. Founded on the principals of “Creation through Creativity”.

“Creation through Creativity.”

One of my earliest memories was seeing my mother helping others less fortunate in an unjust system of apartheid. That moment has always stuck with me as one of the most important to realise as Audrey Hepburn has said that “We are given two hands, one for helping ourselves, and the other for helping others.” Years later while a film student I volunteered my time as a mentor for the Young Storytellers Foundation in Los Angeles. There is a magic of seeing the spark in a child’s eye as they experience the joy of their own creativity. Unfortunately, many children around the world are not as fortunate to be able to have a chance to contribute inspiration to our world; therefore, I have chosen four charities to donate 50% of our profits to:

The Trevor Noah Foundation is a charity that helps orphans and underserved youth in South Africa to be better equipped in education. I was born in South Africa and have lived and worked in the streets of Johannesburg and have seen that education is desperately needed for South Africa to be able to rise up to its potential. Therefore, I have chosen Trevor Noah ́s Foundation because I believe in his cause, but there is another reason too. Trevor Noah is one of the most successful comedians in our time and I believe humor is a saving grace that isn ́t used enough today. In a world that is becoming increasingly overcrowded by people and polarizing ideas we need to laugh at ourselves more often to be able to avoid unnecessary conflicts. “Comedy is a great tool. We are trying to find ways to use humor to enlighten people without preaching to them.

The Covenant House is a shelter for homeless youths. It was founded in 1972 in New York by a priest who stepped down from his post as a tenured professor and began serving the city ́s poor. He moved into a rundown tenement building with a few other friends and students and began helping the homeless and runaway youths. When I was a teenager, I found myself homeless on the streets of Los Angeles and The Covenant House took me in and helped me get back on my feet. For that I will always be truly grateful that there are sanctuaries like this in the world. “Saving more than one million boys and girls since opening our doors.

The S.O.S Children ́s Villages was founded by Hermann Gmeiner. Like Audrey Hepburn, he also saw the horrors of war firsthand as a German soldier in Russia. After the war, he was confronted with the isolation and suffering of many of the war ́s orphans, so he decided with only 600 Austrian schillings to start an orphanage in Tyrol. Today there are 438 S.O.S Children ́s Villages in 132 countries that provide home and constant care for more than 60,000 orphans. “Everything good in the world happens when somebody does more than they have to. The good that I don't do, no one can do for me.

The United Nations Children's Fund is a United Nations agency responsible for providing
humanitarian and developmental aid to children worldwide. UNICEF operates in over 190 countries worldwide and its activities include immunizations and disease prevention, administering treatment for children and mothers with HIV, enhancing childhood and maternal nutrition, improving sanitation, promoting education, and providing emergency relief in response to disasters. My distant aunt Audrey Hepburn was an UNICEF ambassador and she said, “I can testify to what UNICEF means to children, because I was among those who received food and medical relief right after World War II. I have a long-lasting gratitude and trust for what UNICEF does.

Winston Churchill once said, "We make a living from what we get, we make a life from what we give." UNICEF, along with The Trevor Noah Foundation, The Covenant House and S.O.S. Children ́s Villages, have through their actions changed the world, and have inspired many people, we hope that they will inspire you to lend a hand, so that we can continue to build a better world with an idea, as Walt Disney said, "Without inspiration we would perish.
